Midwest Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Imaging Graduate Workshop - June 12-14, 2024

Welcome to the Inaugural MUSIG Workshop

Scheduled for June 12-14 2024, this event invites graduate students from labs across the midwest to receive training in advanced topics in ultrafast spectroscopy and imaging. Collaborate, network, and engage with experts in a scenic venue, centered around accelerating research and career development.

Workshops on technical methods in ultrafast spectroscopy, imaging, and polariton spectroscopy will be delivered by distinguished researchers in these fields from across the midwest including:

• Libai Huang, Purdue University
• Sarah King, University of Chicago
• Mike Reppert, Purdue University
• Theta Chen, University of Notre Dame
• Arnaldo Serrano, University of Notre Dame

Students will also have the opportunity to present their own research during the two evening poster sessions.

Tentative Schedule

• Wed Jun 12 Arrival & First Evening:
  • 6 PM Welcome reception and dinner, and Poster Session I.
• Thur Jun 13:
  • 7:30-8:45 AM: Breakfast
  • Morning Topic Sessions:
    • 9-9:50 AM: Andrei Tokmakoff - Time Domain Picture of Spectroscopy
    • 10-10:50 AM: Arnaldo Serrano - Fourier Analysis in Spectroscopy and Imaging
    • 11-11:50 AM: Mike Reppert - Classical Response Theory
  • Noon-2 PM: Lunch (on your own) and free time to explore park grounds.
  • Afternoon Topic Sessions:
    • 2-3:30 PM: Libai Huang/Sarah King - Ultrafast Optical and Electronic Imaging
    • 3:40-4:30 PM: Theta Chen - Theory of Lineshapes of Polaritonic Systems
  • 6 PM Evening: Sit-down dinner, Keynote Lecture(s), and Poster Session II.
• Fri Jun 14 Final Morning:
  • 7:30 AM Breakfast and loosely organized groups for exploring park and inn amenities. Departure.

Venue and Accomodations

The workshop will be held at the Potawatomi Inn (do NOT book your room through the Inn website), located in the beautiful Pokagon State Park, Lake James, Angola, IN. The inn hosts a large number of indoor and outdoor amenities and activites such as an indoor pool, sauna, lake front beach, hiking trails, horseback riding, and more.

As a student attendee, you will share a room with 2 queen beds with one other attendee. You may submit the name of a preferered roomate upon sign up.

The cost to attending graduate students for the 2 night stay and 4 meals will be $300.
